If you’re a Claude Code user, I can’t recommend enough letting the CLI agent loose on your drive to ask it how to free up disk space. I reclaimed 200 GB this morning just removing podcast downloads and caches. I’m just discovering some of the other stuff it can do beyond coding.

Seems like a great way to lose things and have no idea you did! 🫣😂
You act as if I’m giving it free reign. I run it on plan mode and ask it to do an analysis without touching any data. Then I have it act only on specific instructions and approve every action manually.
You have more trust than I fren!
I know one folder of mine it would delete

Gotta be in the GB by now 🤣
I don’t even listen to podcasts on my computer, but it has been downloading episodes for ages. I just nuked the whole thing.
You can configure what tools it has access to, and only give it read access to your drive. My concern would be privacy. I’d be curious to try that using LM Studio with a local model.
In my case I just asked it to analyze data usage. It wasn’t permitted to examine any file contents, and I had to approve all delete commands.
You can loose things that way so be careful
Letting AI go through all the stuff on your disk, what could ever go wrong.
BTW a disk space analyzer tool, like windirstat for windows or ncdu for linux, can help you do the same with human brain processing power and no leaks.
Lots of doubters in the comments of this post, but Claude is pretty good with instructions and you can ask it to ask you first before deleting anything or sort your drive into what it thinks makes the most sense and confirming before taking action
There’s a healthy balance available between mindlessly giving over control and manually doing this task yourself
