Whether we like it or not, physical gold is a level 1 asset that does not pose a risk to bank balance sheets.
You don't sell a level 1 asset, you add it and save it as a store of value. This is why central banks are increasing their physical gold reserves. I see it impossible for them to take it out and spend it in bitcoin.

Well we all know that there won’t be this amount of gold. Still, we’ll have some amount of gold besides of a lot of old cheese to sell for bitcoin. Bitcoin > cheese 😅🤷♂️
If there is less gold than expected, they will adjust its value so that the market value matches the expected value, and problem solved.
They will audit Fort Knox an the result will be shaming.
