npubs are cooler though

Npubs are aesthetic

Is this something from the nostriga talk? I've not watched yet. But yeah there is a a certain mystique to the npub. Also signals 'something else'... Something...other. #xenostr 🥲

Rabble was using in the context of putting your magic nsec into other clients and having all your data appear, but there is a certain aesthetic of a magic npub string for referencing users. I still think nostr addresses and less magical and thats probably a good thing when referring to people.

shoulda been bech32m like taproot ... maybe we should just ignore the suffix ... is it used anywhere for anything ever? low-res qr codes?

We decided against it because it would have been a massive headache and the issue bech32m fixed was pretty minor

What's a nostr address?

I am not a fed btw

which one is the nostr address? newb here

You can associate your npub with a domain, jb55@jb55.com is an example. If you search this in clients you can get my npub.

What’s the most user-friendly guide to get this set up on a domain you own?

you can use https://damus.io/key/ to convert your npub to hex

I followed this guide, it was very easy to do.

🙌🏻 👍

you mean one could use his own domains? that would be nice, especially since we consider to use Nostr as 3rd platform to use

yes, I did it with my own domain.

I quite like the extra @ ditto uses at the beginning. No idea why it does that. (To make it less like an email/lnurl?)

it's an activitypub thing

oh very neat thank you 👌🏼

you don't have one!

it's a nip05 verification.

there are plenty of free and paid services out there. if you wanna use mine (nostrich.cc) then just send me a DM and I explain more..

I did send you a PM, also nostr:npub1qm7ny6seuv3h3ahnu96pyj7kc67ms8u3uce8p76433jd9ngr6qzsmtvlmk did (which is my service for nip05 identifiers).

sharing npubs might be freaking awesome but for some NPC adoption we should start share our NIP05s .

mine is hodladi@nostrich.cc

👀👀New ?

what are nostr addresses?

You’ll see mine on my profile

realjode@nostriches.net

Some #nostr clients allow you to sign in with this format

oh, nip-05

yes, definitely seems like a good idea

although in theory you can have multiple web addresses

* profiles.

npubs are insufficient from a sharing standpoint.

of course, but that hasn’t entered common nostr knowledge land yet

why?

No relay hints. The app must find where posts from the key can be found. nProfiles include relay hints on them.

why append only logs like hypercore or repos make life easier

I'll normalize something else, along with it, when i get to it

I agree but I like the domain instead of user at domain. But we render it shit work _@nos.social or _@rabble.nos.social vs nos.social / @nos.social & rabble.nos.social / @rabble.nos.social

The username@nip05.server looks like an email. If we did username.nip05.server it could both be a web view profile and a nostr name.

Anyway I think nostr names / addresses is way better than npub / nprofile sharing.

interesting idea

@jb55.com would be mine, not a bad idea for tagging

What happen if I follow myself?

You will see your notes in your feed like anyone else you follow

If we forbid dots on nip05 usernames, we enable @username.subdomain.domain.tld

npub . pro does this right?

It's great

npub.pro does the web hosting, yea! But as far as I know nobody’s connected npub.pro with nip-05 hosting.

So it allows me to add the domain as my NIP05 identifier, if that's what you mean.

That is, people can search for sachin.npub.pro like they would my NIP05 handle on Nostr clients and find me

You can put _@sachin.npub.pro into your NIP05 and it will look like "sachin.npub.pro" nip05 in most clients, but whether they would find you with just a domain name is not certain, depends on the client.

Ah I guess the clients I use can do it so I assumed every one of them would

I wonder if people in this thread including me understand 🤔

No. We want less dependence on DNS and certificate authorities. If an npub under determines discovery, then include an IP address of a trusted relay

This 👆

Domains are gone after a while, npubs are forever.

What's a nostr address?

nip05 in nerd speak

Conn@BitcoinNostr.com

Is there a normie guide/video for how to set this up ?

How do we set this up? Is there an easy normie way of doing so?

Gotcha! Thanks
