Will has a good point here: sometimes a “like” can have benefits in terms of alerting you to people you may otherwise not have seen.

Playing devil’s advocate to myself: if you’re following someone and *want* them to see you, a zap is a sure fire way to do that while also giving them value.

Idk, I’m still going back and forth on this...

Sometimes it’s nice to just “like” a note to let someone know you’ve seen it (especially if you’re liking their reply to your note).

But then again, maybe I’m just stuck in the centralized platform mentality, where we’re algorithmically conditioned to desire “being seen.”

Just noting out loud here. Hope y’all are having a great day. nostr:note1dprc93mxwfwm8c25eh47hqalg8dn7svmxhn8hl3s0uu7330jlftqhtw3c4

Not everyone will want to use zaps. Especially no coiners. Only zaps is an echo chamber enabler. You’re only going to get reactions from bitcoiners.

It really makes me happy to see this discussion having turned from "onlyzaps 4ever!" to "maybe like do have value".

agree with having likes

Totally agree, in our current mental models, the like is a different level of engagement, it has the lowest friction.

The question remains, is this just conditioning or do we actually need it? Can you remember a time before likes? I can remember a time before "reactions", and have found myself missing them when not there...

A like gives the recipient a dopamine hit. There's a little value to that. When you get a thousand likes, it has a little value.

The value order, as I see it, in descending order.

1) zap

2) repost

3)like
