Electrical insulation tape is the best tool for covering phone cameras. Sticks well, easy to remove, doesnt leave residue, can be reused many times.

Think about what percentage of time of the day you actually use the cameras, and if the cameras need to be able to see for the 99.9% of unused time.

great advice

+ black one looks pretty decent.

However on one of my mobiles it disables automatic brightness function.

Maybe try a smaller tape cutout.

Solved with translucent medical strap. Not so pretty but works good.

Does that just blur out the picture, or fully black it out?

It filters out the picture, you can see just how bright is the scene. Like looking throw white paper.

That's my selfie 🙂

I wonder if you still can get meaningful data with some machine learning...

But it looks alright.

Guess if I took huge amount of pictures of the same object from different angles maybe some statistical methods could recover transformation and data loss (identical for each photo).

For a more permanent solution for your front camera cut a little circle from a sticker with a punch and use that to cover the camera. Has been working for many weeks now.

Do you not trust the #GrapheneOS toggle?

Why trust when it's easy to be sure?

Exactly my thinking

Fair enough. I can't remember the details, but I thought there was some custom sandboxing/isolation

Regular reboots would mitigate an exploit that doesn't have persistence. It's mainly used for data protection rather than an exploit mitigation though. Our other features and hardening are more important.

I do actually use a case that covers back/front cameras, but that's just because I don't want them to scratch or have my fingerprints on the lenses. Free access to the camera would definitely suggest they have other parts of your phone compromised and accessible.

I'll stick to de soldering all of them and throwing them in the trash.

Respect. But effort/result ratio is to high for me.

Fair point.

Or get one of these... https://www.fitbag.com/en. No affiliation, just a happy user... Let's you use your phone without a cover when you're using it... and covers screen and cameras (and cleans them) when you're not!

They have fish leather, wow...

Yeah. Really cool. I emailed them and said they should start accepting sats. They said they’re working on it 😎

Electrical tape can absolutely leave residue.

Masking tape/painters tape master race...
