Does anyone here use a virtual split keyboard, ever?

I would prefer my iPhone to be able to do this. If using your device in landscape I feel like there is an entire UI/UX genre to explore around this.

3 columns, or 2 rows, or 3 rows?

Maybe not great if you use big text, but I tend to use tiniest text size, dark mode, etc, etc.

Here’s a stock picture of an older iPad with a split keyboard.

Damn, for landscape typing this looks awesome 😎

Exactly, just faster and more productive to type in landscape.

This split keyboard then gives you more screen area for visual stuff.

I wonder if a simple scrolling centre column with preview feeds on right and left that you can swipe to centre would feel more immersive than the single rolling feed?

Yes it also opens up the possibilities for more content on the screen at once!

Like notifications on one side, scrolling the feed on the other.

Have a look at the Messagease keyboard.

It's completely detached from the "querty" layout and designed for phone/tablet use.

Been using it on Android for years and love it. It's a bit clunky and old though. I'm not even sure, if it's still being developed. 😅

Definitely a "fresh" approach to typing on touchscreens.

Have a look at this and save to homescreen.

I’ve been toying with the keyboard layout for a week and going to start adding some features / functions shortly.

Maybe…

MusicLM on the left column

nostr on the centre column

WebRTC on the right column

Have a couple of other ideas too, but all quite a new UX and UI.
