I’m having the same issue!
I got it finally with the build nostr link someone commented.
On Damus you can add directly by clicking the image area. On other clients upload to some place like nostr.build and then copy the URL and paste it into the image field.
I simply uploaded an image file from my pc.

not sure on the mobil app. but on iris.to web client you click on the pic in the top right corner. there you can pick your user name and it says picture url: , right under is a dialogue box that says choose file. after you choose a file stored on your machine it fills in the url.
