Has anyone watched Johnny Mneumonic?

I love Gibson and the genre as a whole, but it got pretty mixed (mostly bad) reviews.

But I trust nostriches far more than some rotten tomatoes critic, so here we are 🦾

I like that flick.

Seems like that’s the general opinion. Imma watch it soon

I enjoyed it back in day.

Thanks! You’ve got a good track record in my book. I’ll watch it next year 😁

Long ago I’ve probably seen it twice. Not something I’ve been tempted to revisit, and watch with my own kids, like Starship Troopers (which if anything has gotten better with age.) It wasn’t that memorable for me but it probably did inspire better films later.

Good answer! Starship troopers was pretty epic. Thanks!

Absolute classic. Haven’t watched that in soooo long!

Thanks! Early 2025 list then

It's good. It's written by Gibson himself, but also doesn't take itself too seriously.

I liked the short story. I'll try the movie someday

Ooh cool, I didn’t realize that. Read neuromancer for the first time this year and it instantly landed in my top 5. Will watch šŸ¤™

It's worth watching. I wouldn't say that it's great, and (as is common), it departs from the Gibson story. I wasn't disappointed at paying full ticket price, and saw it for the second time recently.

Awesome. If you re watched, that’s a good sign. Would you recommend reading the story first? (I haven’t yet)

Definitely read the story! Gibson is mindblowing as a writer. Also, he's the opposite of a tech nerd/geek. He wrote Neuromancer on a manual typewriter, and when he got his first computer, he was confused by it's low-tech victorian-like use of a spinning disk.

That’s an awesome bit of trivia! Never knew that. He wrote a nice forward to neuromancer (more recently) talking about how he completely missed the prediction of something like smartphones - all the screens are still full size. I found that an interesting reflection. Thanks for the rec, Troy!
