It’s my one year skate-a-versary!! 🎉

I did a 9 km celebratory skate and coincidentally it was my 9th time skating with hockey skates.

Why is this such a big deal to me? Years ago I sustained 2 broken legs and a fractured pelvis on both sides among other injuries. I never thought I would be able to skate again but one year ago today I had help to get me back on the ice. I’ll forever be grateful. Fast forward to today, I was able to venture out skating solo totally on my own to enjoy the sunshine and skate continuously with speed without falling or stopping. What a glorious feeling it is!!

Challenge yourself to do the things you never thought you would be able to! 😊

Happy for you!

Thank you!! ☺️

Nice. Keep it up. 👍 Bend those knees. Back straight. Skating is the best workout on the planet.

I definitely found my grove today! After skating for an hour I can feel all the muscles I worked and that’s after regularly working out in a gym 3-6 times a week. Skating hits differently!

Hell ya brother. What I would have given to skate this 10 years ago. Go Sabres (lol).

More like sister… 💅 lol but yes it was incredible!! & no room for cheering on Buffalo here lol

Hell ya sister.

We accept pity cheering.

lol not sure I can do that! Will you cheer for the team across the border from you?! Likely not! 🤣💙

True.

Although going to school with many people from Long Island/NYC, Buffalonians always identified more with Ontario than the city imo. More self proclaimed mid-westerners.

You are awesome 🏆

Awe!! Thank you so much! ☺️

Congratulations! That takes some guts.

I suffered a spinal injury some years back, and the thought of falling onto hard ice and returning to that hell scape of pain is terrifying.

Thank you so much!! ☺️

Oh I’m sorry to hear of your spinal injury. I had heard of someone who was an experienced skater skating with his son on the lake and ended up with a brain injury so I wear a helmet on the lake. It only takes a split second for someone’s life to be turned upside down so might as well take precaution while still having fun.

There is a guy who doesn't live very far from me, who was a professional NHL player. He was an expert skater.

He was at the outdoor rink with his young kids, just standing there on the ice and lost his balance. Cracked his head on the ice and now has permanent brain damage. His personality is even different.

He spends his time talking to folks about the importance of head protection, because it has nothing to do with your skating ability.

That is incredibly sad!! It doesn’t take much! I’ll gladly wear a helmet and not look my best so I can feel my best afterwards.
