The average person can improve their privacy 10x simply by not using Gmail

Then another 10x by not using a cloud drive to store phone pictures

This is extremely achievable even for normies

The first step is to ditch is to ditch spyware operating systems from like macOS, iOS, OEM Android's, Windows ... and instead use #linux and #grapheneOS. Nothing else will matter if you don't do this first.

The unfortunate thing here is that 90% of the emails i send or receive still go to or come from gmail. Email is dead to me..

I only really use email to register accounts. I rarely communicate over email, and when i do, i just assume it will have zero privacy. It's a shit outdated protocol.

Hmm i think the protocol is not so bad, we just let it be dictated by google (and microsoft to a degree). They have the best services in exchange for the worst privacy. They have reached such a ridiculous percentage of the market that they basically get to set the rules and make it harder for any competition.

Same thing could happen to nostr basically. If you make hands down the best client and/or have the best relays you could basically invent NIPs or other things to "combat spam" or something that simply refuses the client to connect to certain relays or your relays to accept connections from certain clients.

I've got a sovereign, self-hosted phone pictures solution, but damn was it a pain in the ass to set up and 100% not normie-friendly.

agreed about email though.

Gmail... only for YouTube for me (and a game that doesn't allow Proton for some reason).

Cloud disengaged... check.

... be honest..

Also, consider old school external drives instead of the cloud. Even better than a personal server, which still has a large attack surface.

Your files can't be held for ransom if the drive isn't connected to a computer, let alone the internet.

External drives are old-school?👴

For some!
