imo Nostr clients shouldn’t have ‘Trending’ sections.
What’s the point, if you’re going to go from being manipulated by one algorithm to another?

You can make custom feeds called lists. I use Nostrudel.ninja to make my lists and they automatically show up in Amethyst. Can switch lists with a tap, very handy
I need to embrace nostrudel more. I like it.
But the feed confuses me.

Algorithm is not the problem, its the purpose of the algorithm that matters, big difference between an algorithm designed to serve content you like or one designed to get maximum ad revenue.
Because I don’t want to check my Nostr feed 24/7. I want a way to just see the highlights since I last logged in.
"Trending" sections are antithetical to Nostr. Hatred spreads like wildfire through "trending" posts. We don't do mass psychosis here.
I find it positive; it helps me see what people are talking about and partly avoid browsing the global (which is full of spam and porn)
I came to this post thanks to trends.
But wouldn't be the difference here that no central company could manipulate what is trending? If it would be coded what is necessary to get in trending. e.g how many post about a topic in a certain time frame and gotten likes/zaps/replies etc.
I mean I guess I would like to see what is trending when it really! is happening right now in the world.
But as always, clients should build whatever they want. But could make it optional in the client. The market then will punch them in the face if it was a bad decision or reward them if vice versa.
problem is, that for building of some community, you need some suggestions. I know, it's controversial, on other side it's also complicated to start a had to select from huge amount of spam and scams. If it's clear way of suggestion, I don't have problem with.
The point is choosing the algorithm (so the client), that means also zero alghoritms
I thought it was nifty how some client allow you to see one of your follows feeds. Let me choose my Algo, kinda.

There will always be a client that doesn't have a trending section... If that's ever not true, be the change you want to see
