The story that inspired the movie is totally different. Ed gein used to rob graves or murder and use human skin/bones to make lampshades and like belts and shit. It wasn’t really about wearing someone else’s skin or becoming someone else, but just creating with it.

💯

back in the day the media was pretty heavy into conflating trans women with drag queens and "sick men in dresses" that would trick you into bed or try to kill you, or both...and the popularity of the sotl movie really amplified that super fucked up uneducated sentiment. but hey, when you get over the trauma of people thinking tjose horrible things about you...what can you do...but have fun with it 😉

I honestly feel stupid I never even considered that perspective when watching it back in the day.

thx. you're a good egg 🫂💜

You too friend 🥰

No offense but not much has changed in the media or at least in part of the media. According to several news outlets people are only trans to win sporting events, go into locker rooms, and peep on people in the bathroom. Some of the tropes have changed but the sentiment is the same.

you're not telling me anything i don't know. they used to and they still do. but, in the 80s/90s there wasn't really any public discourse going on to educate. and springer was all people got. at least now there is a discourse and more education. it's progress. have you seen the #disclosure doc?

Disclosure doc? The hashtag is just notes about UFO’s. I’m confused

Google for the win. No I have never seen it.

sweet. yeah, it's a must watch. great doc about trans representation in the media. from spit takes after kisses to cheap jokes to disturbed serial killers, jerry springer and much more. very relevant to our discussion. highly recommended
