I want to make public my concern about "NFTs" which are being sold utilizing my name. Recently, a picture of code I wrote was sold at auction for .41 BTC. It was advertised as my code in the listing and presented to the public for sale and profit. Let me be clear – I was not involved with the creation and sale of this or any other "NFTs". I have not consented to the use of my code or my name for this purpose. Instead, 3rd parties are marketing my name and my code for their own monetary gain. Worse yet – they are creating confusion in the marketplace to the extent that the auction “winner” contacted me and stated: “Think I won your auction? 😊”. Stop using my name to mislead the public so you can make a quick buck. It’s wrong.

The public should also be aware that the seller and/or auction site offered me a donation of 90% of the auction proceeds “should I choose to accept” it. I feel this is a clear attempt to: (1) bribe me into silence; and/or (2) obtain my consent after the fact. I will not accept such payment at the expense of the public who are being misled. I will not accept any such “donation”.

Due to the misrepresentation involved and actual buyer confusion, I strongly insist upon 100% of the auction proceeds to be refunded to the buyer.

I felt obligated to speak out, not just for myself, but for other Bitcoin devs who are being placed in similar situations. The amount of money we have been offered as “donations” for acquiescing to what is taking place is considerable. I do not condone it. I do not consent to the use of my name or code for this grift. I want the public to be aware of where I stand.

I want to do whatever I can do to limit the damage which will inevitably be caused by this confusing and misleading behavior.

Ordinals and NFTs claim to provide proof of ownership, but that’s all nonsense. There is absolutely no use for them, other than to scam people to pay millions of sats for a single sat.

Terrible 😵‍💫

please post your npub to Twitter

Sounds like capitalists with families to feed dont mind profiting from unethical behavior. That's the NFT space in a nutshell.

I have huge respect for Luke taking a principled stance and refusing a large amount of money shortly after losing most of his life savings to the hacking incident.

#[0]

#[1] or venal degeneracy?

Which way Western Bitcoiner?

#[0]

You did the right thing Luke.

if they’re misrepresenting your involvement, i’d talk to an attorney about it. an email or letter from one may be sufficient to resolve it.

if you don’t have a case, drawing further attention (especially if annoying you is part of their marketing effort) likely helps them attract more buyers, so may be best to just let it go.

IMO not everything should be adjudicated by the legal system. Even if you are in right it can be too costly to discover the pseudonymous persons involved. It seems sufficient he raised awareness of the problem so others recognize it when it happens again. Other devs and famous names are similarly being invoked in acts of misrepresentation that borderlines on theft. The community should call out these acts as wrong when they see it.

You're a good man Luke. You always have been.

Blame hodldee at coinkite for this scammy shitcoinery #[2]

I didn't think the NFT space could become more obnoxious and sleazy, but then ordinals and their insouciant cheerleaders came along.

I think you've taken a respectable position, #[1]. It demonstrates how a person can treat their reputation like it was worth something preserving.

*something worth preserving

🤙🏻⚡️

Best thing I have read today! 🤙🏻

I can appreciate your principaled stance, but not sure what you expect to happen.

Do you honestly think you reduce this kind of behavior by any significant amount by demanding the money is given back?

I think you are doing more by just warning people. But maybe that is you're main intent.

It looks like intellectual property is pretty much going the way of the dinosaurs with AI generation, the ease of copying, ungovernable money, etc..

Hi #[0] , could we please consider adjusting #[1] to display images below text?

For example #[2] looks good in other clients but far worse in Iris which displays the images before the text.

Instagram does not have that but Twitter does. There's no one way to do it . But thanks for the feedback!

I agree with Warren on this one. Instagram is predominantly an image posting app hence the images first. Nostr could potentially replace both but I think a Twitter replacement is the main aim here.

On articles (and blog posts) the featured image is on top, too.

There's no clear one answer, only preferences or previous customs.

These people are absolutely disgusting

Grifters gonna grift.

Who or which project did this?

And that, Ladies and Gentlemen, is how you handle it

😁👍

This is exatcly what I expect of Bitcoin, Bitcoin devs and extended community. Utmost integrity. Respect!

You typically get quadruple damages in the US, for stuff like this.

it’s really unfortunate how scammers and schemers are using other people’s IP for their own financial gain without consent. i’m sorry this happened to you!

Luke, you are the realest dev in Bitcoin 🫡

im just happy for whoever got 0.41 btc for being an idiot only. lol
