Just shipped all my shitcoins to Binance to convert to BTC. What a good feeling. It's not a lot of value but at least it's all BTC now.

I was hoping to send it to my new ColdCard but can't get it to hook up with sparrow on Linux. Only get this error.

Thanks nostr:npub1vwymuey3u7mf860ndrkw3r7dz30s0srg6tqmhtjzg7umtm6rn5eq2qzugd for giving me the final push to rid myself of nonsense.

Odd. I’ve never seen this before.

Have you looked at the tutorials from #[2] or #[3]? They might have some trouble shooting tips.

#[4], any ideas?

You probably need a udev rule for the coldcard to give your user access. Looks like they've got a stock rule: https://github.com/Coldcard/ckcc-protocol/blob/master/51-coinkite.rules

I'm somewhat surprised there's only one rule, since they've now released 4 versions of the coldcard, I would have expected them all to have different USB IDs πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

Note also that your ubuntu user will need to belong to the `plugdev` group, linux group membership changes require a full log out and log in, and reloading udev rules live is kind of annoying, so I recommend just rebooting πŸ˜‰

Congratulations on dropping the πŸ’©:)

Welcome to the club pal we're glad you're here. Don't worry we all wish we had done it sooner. I'm just glad you figured it out before it's too late.

Good for you. A hot wallet in the interim is better than an exchange while you figure out that not FOSS wallet.

Sounds like shots fired. Do you have another recommendation for cold storage?

Chiming in to recommend Blockstream Jade.

Use my code "ORANGE" for a discount 🫑

Sorry my dude might not work. Use the affiliate link I posted in the other comment for a discount.

fuck this stooped spammer , click on his link... for security? you have got to be kidding? click on spammy links people and it'll bite you.

What the hell are you on about it's just an affiliate link to the Blockstream store. You know Blockstream, one of the oldest and most reputable companies in Bitcoin. Adam Back is CEO of Blockstream who invented hash cash and POW among other things... Jade is a completely open source hardware wallet. Hardware and software is open. OP asked for suggestions and I gave him mine. That's not spam and the way you talk to people is unbelievable.

Lmfao

It may have gotten a bit out of control up in here.

What in the world happened. Sorry for trying to get you a deal on a product you were specifically asking about... Is it spam to post a single link on response to a question? I thought spam was posting the same thing multiple times all over the place. I ain't no optimism bot...

I don't know anything. I'm an idiot. I also refuse to get into any arguments on Nostr.

One of the main reasons I'm here is to avoid petty bullshit.

I really appreciate all interactions with any notes I make. If I have an issue I block someone, easy. Not worth getting worked up over anything. If I want that I'll go blue bird hunting.

Exactly my thoughts.

Getting out of shitcoins is a sign of intelligence bro. Just put the time in to figure out what you like and how Bitcoin works. You got it.

I didn't tell anyone to click a link for security?

Also a hardware wallet isn't really cold storage. I'd have a viewing only wallet on Blockstream Green and your words on a steel plate. No spending wallet in existence without recovering one from the seed. That's cold. I got a really nice solution from privacypros.io but Blockstream sells a similar solution and again, you can use my affiliate for a discount.

Here's my affiliate link πŸ‘‡

https://store.blockstream.com/?ref=3322

Imma DIY Seedsigner maxi. But there are a few other foss hww that I've heard good things about: foundation passport, blockstream Jade, bitbox 02.

Sparrow is my shit btw it's πŸ”₯.

that's one of my concerns with a hard wallet. it depends on potentially fallible hardware & unbuggy software. I appreciate the dangers of having it on an exchange or even just a software wallet. I'm more concerned with failure of one of these components than worrying about an exchange going south. right now it's is one of my least of the worries with a personal hack being the least.

but, I guess they're all possible, so do what you will.

If you have Bitcoin on an exchange you don't own any Bitcoin.

A hardware failure cannot erase your coins πŸ˜‚

Learn self custody.

why is hardware necessary if a failure doesn't matter?

oh, wait, a doosh with an affiliate link is talking to me about security? go fuck your advice, spammer. unfucking believable. best part is the stooped fuck didn't get it right. lol fucked it up. software or hardware didn't fuck you. you fucked yourself.

What is your problem dude? I'm not spamming I'm gave a solution I was asked for... You don't need a hardware device to store Bitcoin in cold storage. What the hell are you on about

Hardware isn't necessary.

I think I've got maybe $12 left on Coinbase. Due to some fuckery I needed to resubmit my identity. $12 is pretty cheap for an education.

Indeed

Binance locked my withdrawal for a bit. Always a bit nerve racking.
