Sure you self custody your bitcoin but do you self custody your email?
Discussion
No. I hate email and if I could, I'd just never use it.
That looks expensive.
I did for a little while, but it kinda sucked. The problem is I didn't make it through the spam filters.
Where would you recommend someone start this?
Explain please.
My email is on my server, I use a client (in this case outlook) to pull all mail off that server, this happens every 60 seconds. Once pulled the email on the server is deleted.
Oh copy. I like to think I'm "safer" using Proton but deep down I know it's not enough. Gotta get an Umbrel or something similar up and running.
Suggestions?
Oh and said deletion and pulling are of course automated.
No, but I do self custody my #Nostr private keys, and that’s pretty close.
My email is based on a domain I own and control, but the actual administration of that email is in the custody of a third party.
Is it though? It depends, if you pay for hosting but run email as a client side protocol and use a client to pull email off the server and then delete it, it really isn't and your host can't really see shit.
Sort of. I manage the server it’s sent and received from but it’s co-located elsewhere. Although now that I have better Internet service then when I moved in, I keep considering moving it home and just running a backup MX elsewhere. If start9 would get us a server side IMAP filtering setup, I’d be all over that. For now it’s not worth the hassle of changing setups.
Yes. Happy user of mail-in-a-box for years. Sometimes it has trouble sending to hotmail/live/microsoft.
