Just started playing with Plex server. Installed on a TruNAS as a plugin. I can say if you have a nice selection of music that you don’t want to carry around on your phone they have an app called Plexamp. You can stream your music to wherever you have a connection to your phone.
After this I think a Start9 server may be coming.

Plex is nice. For me jellyfin is the better open source alternative.
It can also stream your music and videos anywhere so long as you setup dynamic DNS and port forwarding
I’m not sure that there was a plugin for jellyfin in TruNas.
Idk, I don't have a proper nas, just an older computer that runs 24/7 with some really big hard drives
I looked at that option too. But I have a Freenas/Trunas sever I run at work so i’m familiar with those. I also played with openmediavault but the plex setup there was more complicated then i wanted to tackle for now.
It looks like it's possible, but it may be too much of a pain to do

I just bought the plex pass because all our kids are familiar with plex and I can expand out from just the music.
