I only know what this is because of RimWorld.

It’s great for when the little fuckers refuse to harvest their food before winter and a traveling band with loads of the stuff shows up.
😂 yeah, when the Euros arrived it was the only thing that kept them alive over the winter. A lot of beads and tin pots were traded for it.

Little bastards have like 20 shelves in a freezer to store food, and like 10-15 acres worth of growing zone, and I still have to get hydroponics going by winter or they starve themselves by letting the plants die before harvest.

Kind of soft to be honest… I have it in the freezer but at room temperature it’s very soggy… I kind of eyeballed the tallow. Actually like the taste it’s kind of like granulated jerky that they used to sell in a can that kids could use like dip
I got advice from someone either here or elsewhere, to boil the fat to render the tallow instead of just simmering the fat by itself… Tried that method this time, and really liked it… its a more mild process than burning the fat down. You have to simmer the tallow for a while afterwards, to get the water content out… Less water content, the longer the shelflife.
