NOSTR enhances the importance of the freedom to express one’s opinions without fear of retribution

As articulated in the First Amendment to the United States Constitution which states:

—“Congress shall make no law…abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”

We shouldn't fear retribution based on our opinions, but Nostr requires us to take responsibility for what we say, and we should expect to be held accountable for it. There is no way to delete or edit on Nostr, and I honestly hope that functionality doesn't come along in spite of the amount of noise calling for it. Put ideas out there, put opinions out there and let them be challenged. The trick is using the challenges to learn more, question our assumptions and conclusions, and then proceed to new conclusions and opinions based on our new found knowledge. That's what having a solid foundation under our information infrastructure will provide.

It's funny I think harder and more carefully about what I say on nostr vs anywhere else. 🤔

Why do you think that is?

Because I respect the people here so I don't want to lead anyone down the wrong path or make a mistake in my thinking if it can be avoided. I don't do this to the same degree in other contexts because I don't really care what most people think.
