Should I read the bible?
Discussion
yeah
Yes.
Bettering your spiritual life and having peace that surpasses understanding sounds like a terrible idea ;)
That's not a good frame.
A better frame is, "I want to read the Bible, because...." And then list all the reasons you can think of or that are meaningful to you.
This will tell you what you think or believe reading the Bible will contribute to you, and when you discover for yourself what reading the Bible will contribute to you, then you will find the substance, or not, that will motivate you to read the Bible, or not.
"Should" speaks to outside pressure, and outside pressure doesn't add peace to a person's life.
Start with the first 2 of the 10 commandments (the other 8 are generally understood by everyone):
1) Thou shall have no God above me (state)
2) Thou shall not worship false idols (politicians)
If the majority of the people obeyed to these 2, like they already do to the other 8, humanity would be very peaceful and prosperous.
If you feel drawn to it, definitely. Even if you don’t agree with everything, there’s a lot of wisdom and perspective in it.
Only if you are willing to remove the scales from your eyes
I recommend it. Great collection of stories.
