😩
🌊🌊🌊
When I lived in West Africa I took up surfing. A plastic bag or a diaper or a food wrapper would slap against my leg every other wave. That’s when I really grokked that the global south is bearing the brunt of the world’s plastic problem.
And creating it
🤔
Just as important is whos importing?
The global south tends to be the place that dumps it in the oceans.

Whichbis obvious if you visit any of these places.
The "first world" has the most restrictive and authoritarian plastic policies but also the best waste management. I can't get a plastic bag from a store to use twice as a garbage bag because some guatemalan throws their coke bottlen in the river.
End user responsibility. If i make wooden spoons and you use them to clog up your nose, am i responsible as a spoon exporter ?
No.
But for some reason my rich neighbor will ban wooden spoons because of your behavior.
it’s terrible and the only way to stop this is governmental. plastic would have to be illegal.
Consider the consequences of outlawing plastic.
Would we go back to metal cars? If so, fuel efficiency would plummet due to the higher weight, cost and emissions during production would skyrocket.
Many consumer electronics would be negatively impacted.
Most importantly, people would likely starve as a result of a sudden ban. Transportation of food would be severely limited due to spoilage.
Also plastic found in vegan fabrics that's turned to clothing, shoes, bags (vegan fabric is divided into PU based and natural material - and for PU based, microfibres are commonly used).
Its difficult to get by a non carcinogenic env these days, plastic, process food, lifestyle, radiation, contamination etc. Cancer is tough. US has a lot of solid ongoing research, my grand uncle survived 3 on cancer trials, he is 90+. I know many who beat it through chemo, radiotherapy went on to having normal life. If there is one thing i learnt loosing my dad, the body can be fixed as much as possible (and try as hard as possible). Losing the person though, that's forever
S/o Boyan Slat for cleaning up the oceans and waterways. That man deserves all the moneyz

Yikes!
Endless plastic because endless fiat.
Yes, I agree! Absolutely
It takes up to 1000 years for plastic bottle to completely decompose and trillions of tons of plastic if not more maybe gazillions 🤔are polluting oceans and land.
#organic chemistry
I need to start using more glass.
The takeaway being pushed

Plastic is a blessing.
Wtf is bioaccumulate? Why not just say accumulate?
This is a real problem with real consequences today, not like CO2
don't believe everything you read Jack.
i will believe environmentalist fear mongering when Klaus Schwab gives up his private jet.
Humanity needs to get away from oil based plastics and start making bio plastics using hemp and other materials.
