I am sorry, but if you want a somewhat reliable node that runs 24/7, ECC is a requirement to save you from constant headaches and doubles guessing your own sanity. My 2 sats worth of option and experience ๐ถ๐พ๐ซก๐ซ nostr:note1s4reswg0eaja96nppuvlz8ck277uyf72cugteqgcsg05s0nccp6q2ujmwx

Why? I think many of us are using old pcs or rpis with non ecc memory without any issues 24/7
How many FCs did you see so far due to unknown errors? I have seen a few ๐ถ๐พ๐ซก
Would an HPz 440 make a good node? Ive got one and was thinking turning it into a node,it's not a mini PC but it does have ECC memory on it
Bitcoin node or lightning node? And how much storage and ram it has? ๐ถ๐พ๐ซก
Hmm I guess lightning node๐ค don't really know the difference but it has a 6cores CPU and was thinking of getting 2 2tb sdds for storage. Was reading and somewhere that you need some form of raid setup incase one fails
Not very techy just learning for YouTube and here
LN node can be dangerous at times and you may lose funds unintentionally. Be warned ๐ถ๐พ๐ซ
Iโd suggest two 2TB high quality SSDs (preferably enterprise grade) in a ZFS mirror config. Start there for storage. RAM, probably 16GB is good start, but with ZFS I would go for 32-64 (I have 128GB). Reliable network connection and 24/7 internet and UPS. Then you are good to go for LN node. ๐ถ๐พ๐ซ๐ซก
Oh sweet thank you ๐ it's has 32gb of ram and I'm just saving to get the ssds and ups.
Ill definitely read up a bit more about zfs ๐ค๐ฝ
It would be nice if there was a cost effective mini PC type device that supports ECC and has dual M.2 SSD slots for running a node.. Personally I havenโt had any issues so far with my node running on a NUC that I would say are due to the lack of ECC but it would give extra piece of mind to have it.
This is only required for running a Lightning node. The Ministry of Nodes Bitcoin Nodebox stores no information that is personal to you (and doesn't have Lightning installed). As for uptime, one of the first Nodeboxes I shipped 8 months ago has an uptime of ... 8 months. The Dell Optiplex range computers are incredibly reliable and stable, and sit quietly away in the background.
I should have stated that I was referring to the Lighting node. Many people (including myself) use the term node loosely. I have no doubt that for bitcoin node this HW is an excellent choice ๐ถ๐พ๐ซ๐ซก
I used your YouTube tutorials to set up a full lightning node and they were extremely helpful. Thanks for putting in the time and effort to make those!
I've been running my lightning node on a NUC with relative reliability, but I'm definitely looking for ways to upgrade to prevent issues in the future.
As a starting point for my research, what does your Lightning Node setup look like as far as hardware is concerned?
I use a Supermicro Server with A3000 series AMD 8 core 16 threads. 128 GB of Micron Tech ECC RAM. One 2TB NVME drive for OS and replicated PGSql storage (replicated to a second server over 10GB fiber connection with similar but lesser specs), two 2TB SSD drives mirrored with ZFS for bitcoin-core and file based configs and software itself. Using ACINQ Eclair ๐ถ๐พ๐ซก
Sweet! I've got some more learning to do, lol. Bitcoin has really caused me to up my tech knowledge game. I had never assembeled a computer or touched CLI before I decided to run a node.
