There has been diabolical heat where I live for the last couple of days , I mean horrible muggy heat , the kind that just keeps you up at night tossing and turning.

AC is so uncommon in Brit/Eire. In houses at least.

Yeah, same reason many homes here in Texas don't have much in the way of heating or plumbing insulation. It's usually only relevant a few days a year.
Yep, makes sense. Even buying a portable AC unit, still also requires storage for the rest of the year. Which is a pain.
