If we plan to fly to Europe this summer, do we need real ID in addition to our passports? I have to renew my license in June, is it recommended to go through the extra nightmare of real ID?

Passports are as good as real od for domestoc.
For a real Id, all you need is your birth certificate if you were born in the United States.
I mean, is it mandatory to fly? We have the documents but do not want to do another state-compelled extra step nonsense. We already have passports.
Passport should be fine because you already provided your birth certificate to the feds. You can also use your passport to go in federal buildings that ask for id. Because now federal buildings wont let you in without a real id.
Out of Country = Passport mandatory
Domestic = Real ID or Passport

They passed Real ID like 20 years ago during the Bush era. This was part of the Patriot Act. They kept pushing it back but fully active as of Wednesday. Can't fly unless your DL has the ⭐ or a passport
Depends what country in Europe but you'll have to get some kind of permit to drive with a foreign licence in most of them.
IDP, but it is easy to get if you already have a driver license, but now this Real ID crap rears up and complicates that. I guess we have to comply if we want to rent a car in Europe.
Like above... you'll need passport for entry, some countries you're supposed to carry them at all times , 🖕but fuck that you'll lose it. Some nightclubs will ID everyone, like in London, they have ATM machines that scan drivers licenses. Most parts you can just walk into. For driving licence either renew it or get an international one for car rental. Some hotels ask for passports (ID) at check in.
*typo: parts = pubs ⬆️. Most pubs you can just walk into, like 99% up to 10pm. Then it's more a drunk check than ID check ha.
Officially I wouldn't know. But you are entering Europe! You just need to know this! You must also have documents that don't exist to be calm 😓😅
