Open question: Will Nostr eventually replace email for communication? Or will they exist side-by-side for the foreseeable future?
Discussion
I think it replaces email and text messaging, but it will take a very long time since many people don’t really want to own their keys.
I think it will not take long because the protocol is extremely simple and easy to build upon. Just like how fast the web took off under the http protocol.
Oops didn't mean to repost my own post 😅
There are good key management protocols for dummies, such as multiple devices where one of your devices authorizes another, like Element on matrix. Even apple uses it like the watch authenticating the user to their laptop
Forwarded this question to my spam folder, says “yes, 💯”
Side by side
Potential to clean up the inbox has legs in my book. Time will tell…still looking for that crystal ball.
I could see it being replaced
I was already thinking about how to host my own email server anyway. I think we just need to tackle some technicalities before we are ready for a full migration. A single messaging protocol is enough I'd say.
I see it replacing, because there are no servers to sniff and the information is fully end to end encrypted by default, the only people that can leak the private messages are the participants. Plus existing clients will be able to continue to function, all the features can stay, just the send/receive has to be swapped out.
what's to stop nostr from being replaced? yes we can integrate bitcoin into nostr but until we create a digital identity that is native to bitcoin it will just be another competitor
it may not be what some bitcoiners want, but i see a future where your digital id is immutable and totally integrated into your everyday life. lack of privacy will be a default, and you will pay for privacy as a service, as well as getting it from joining federations.
Sounds like a good Q for chatGPT
Is there a way to get a company behind a wall in the #Nostrverse? Such that one could hold large conversations with sensitive information with no risk of it being intercepted beyond the compromise of a members #nsec?
Yes. You could start your own private relay, and only invite those who are in your company
