I disagree with your take here a bit. If those 5 relays went down it might take a little bit for everyone to reconnect but people would. This is also the exact issue the outbox (gossip) model is meant to help address. So it’s not awful, and it’s getting better.

We should really be encouraging people to use smaller relays in addition to the big ones though. I might be biased there, being a smaller operator, but spreading your data wide is a good idea.
