Would you consider someone intelligent if they've never said "I don't know*"?

* Or other indications of not having an answer.

I don't know hehe...interesting.

Depends on the context.

A scientist or somebody doing knowledge work should be bumping up against "I don't know" daily.

I think not knowing becomes problematic for (say) an emergency room ER.

Are you saying that if someone never says "I don't know", but they work in ER, then they are (or can be) intelligent?

I would say that expressing uncertainty in that context is probably bad. When seconds count, decisive action needs to be made. IDK if that maps to "intelligence" exactly though... more like training / competence?

You're talking about specific incidents.

What I'm asking about is, if someone NEVER claimed to be ignorant.

If someone always pretended to know the answer to absolutely everything that was asked, would you consider that person to be intelligent?

oh hell no.

the world's full of uncertainties. people who never express uncertainty in just regular conversation... that's frustrating AF

Ah, we're on the same page.

What's worse, is watching false answers steer people down the wrong road.

Intelligence, maybe. Wisdom, less evident.

I would consider them AI which has been "aligned"

i don't think so

They could still be intelligent but lacking in curiosity and humility.

If someone has not admitted "I don't know" in their life, that is a red flag bcoz it is impossible for someone to know everything.

It is likely an arrogance or insecurities to cope/hide to appear "know it all" or "intelligent".

Confident and intelligent people are not afraid or embarassed they do not know something or they are at fault. ☺️
