it's only 15% and it's a starfield, specifically a long exposure of the Pleiades
the camera catches more contrast than is visible IRL... the monitors have quite a wide dynamic range even still
so you can see the pixels and not what the camera shows:
i often have a fullscreen ambient music video playing with my terminal over top as well, yes, the snow in that image is moving around
idk why i like it, i just like it... but it's important that it isn't fast moving or distracting, just better than staring at black
Okay yea that is considerably better. I had tried this years ago and couldn't handle it but maybe I'll give it another shot with settings closer to yours.
I guess the most charitable take on it is that it's like having ambient or background music on while working rather than being in a silent room - which I absolutely do - but for your visual system :)

i could tell you about other reasons why some of us are feeling really buzzed out by something out there but this trend clearly shows we are not alone
