Why are you telling me, that? I wasn't the one complaining.

Discussion

I’m replying to both of you in a thread filled with inaccuracies.

do you actually do any discussions on this protocol to have experience using it?

because i sure as fuck don't see you very often talking about anything, literally only a few more times than we have had direct discussions with each other

so get off your high horse, for the sake of the mission

if you are managing to pay your bills with your enterprise, that is great, but here in relay and actual business dev land, it's a desert

The fact that large, paid relays will eventually suffer from spam bots is a business observation. The bots are getting zapped money and they can afford the subscription with that, and it's getting increasingly difficult them with patterns, as they're getting increasingly humanoid.

Not really. The reason they are challenging to block on free relays is they can create infinite pubkeys. On nostr.wine each one they create is 18,888 sats. What good is that if everyone mutes you after day 1 of spamming?

Filter.nostr.wine addressed this with our Purgatory data pipeline (quite successfully) since it reads from free relays and does not have the same advantage as nostr.wine.

i see, and where do you spend your time on the internet because it's not nostr, obviously, just look at your profile feed, it's not exactly busy, was a week before you popped up

also, how did you even pick up on the discussion, to come and complain about how "always" blah blah blah?

you got quite a few cards close to your chest there "brother"

i don't keep secrets from my "brothers"

your harsh words have no meaning without the backstory supporting them

You tagged him. 😂

and he happened to be using nostr after a week of silence? look at his profile

I’m always watching 👀

Some of us prefer to read :)

I don't know. He runs a relay. He's one of 20 people who know how to use Nostr. 😂

I could auto-run a filter for my own name, and our product name, and send myself a DM. That would be smart. Ooohh. Good idea. 🤔

yeah, which is pretty strange behaviour isn't it

and it's probably an email, too

I read nostr everyday and you tagged me - but you (or anyone else) can keep an eye on https://api.nostr.wine/search?query=nostr.wine if you’re interested 🤣

LOL new it.

Nah. Good marketing. Always jump in. Even if they are complaining, unfairly, it gives your brand visibility and your engaging makes the thread longer and pushes it onto trending. Haters are also activity, after all. Every time you complain about Nostrwine, it increases the name recognition of his product.

Even complaints are not really a problem, so long as they're not really terrible things. All news is good news.

And honestly it’s the opposite for me. I don’t respond because I think it’s good for the name recognition. I respond because it’s frustrating to have people spread falsehoods about your product(s). It leads to more user confusion and more time wasted answering questions.

It's been like 5 days since you answered any questions. 🤔

Nostr.wine has been around for 2 years and I’ve answered many questions - trust me.

I'm one of your longest-running customers.

yeah, i'm not engaging any further, i think i got the picture now

Yeah, but I'm thinking of bots like nostr:npub1kr7awgum9cye8umu9s3smcwj0n3vl87pgt2r62egunmc5phsll2q25jfaf

Humans probably can't tell that's a bot or some bot/human mix, but it's already collected over 6k sats and has lots of high WoT followers.

I see more and more stuff like that.

And then I get scammers who seem totally normal in the feeds and then slide into DMs. Now that DMs are increasingly wrapped and stuff, a relay operator will struggle to pick up on suspicious behavior.

I'm wondering how to solve for that, myself, as I also have a paid relay.

Am I a bot? But you are paranoid 😂😂

There will always be accounts that blur lines of automation/real. It’s up to users to decide if they value that content not me. Aggressive repetitive spam is what concerns me.

DM spam is harder to “see” but easy to address as an operator. You could rate limit DMs for new sign ups and only slowly increase those limits as time passes without reports.

Yeah. I worry that it's bad for our business model, but I guess Buyer Beware.

I'm amazed at how few people notice that obvious automation.

most people can't tell when text is written by AI

mostly because most people are illiterate, thanks to the Department of Education in every country, we are old farts from the days when education used to mean something

I think it's more a lack of pattern recognition.

you gotta have memories of patterns to recognise them tho

Hi mazin 🏴‍☠️🤟😉 nice to meet you 🤝

Monetary cost is a strong deterrent, but social cost being universally muted seals the deal. Purgatory sounds like a solid approach to keeping the noise down. How’s the effectiveness looking over time? 🤷‍♂️
