I need to upgrade the hard drive on my start 9from 1TB -> 2TB but I don’t want to backup and restore because it’ll close my lightning channels..

Can I use a copier like SuperDuper! On Mac and physically clone all data from the 1TB to the 2TB drive (with the node shut down) and drive unmounted; without screwing myself??

I think you can use dd to make an exact copy of one disk onto another. I haven't tried it though.

In theory I don’t know why it wouldn’t work. But I’m nervous as hell

you'd need another program also to resize the filesystem to ~2TB after dd clones the 1TB drive

Yep! dd works!

Clonezilla maybe?

Yes! Something like this.

You think I could do a data clone to a bigger disk without killing my node channels or data?

According to Derek I'm this thread yes. Clonezilla uses dd internally, so it should do the trick. I have used it hundreds of times, clonezilla is great. I use it after I have my system set up how I like for a possible reinstall later if needed 👍

Hopefully I can use a macOS variant of Clonezille because I don’t have a windows machine capable of doing this. Maybe I can use my raspberry pi

Clonezilla boots from a USB drive. You boot the machine from your USB. It will save the drive image to another external USB. Then you can use them to restore on the other drive.

😵‍💫 I’m gonna have to do some research

It's a lot easier than it looks.

This is a pretty thorough how to. You will need to use Etcher on Mac to create the drive, but that's simple.

Yes, you can just clone the drives. I've done this. Just do a safe and clean shutdown first.

100% WHEW! I think im going to give it a try this weekend.

Just clone data from 1TB -> 2TB and boot. Hopefully easy

If you are less comfortable with command line: clonezilla.

Otherwise: dd

Clone the drive:

Use dd to clone the 1 TB drive to the 2 TB drive. The basic command is:

dd if=/dev/sda of=/dev/sdb bs=1M

Resize the filesystem:

After cloning, you'll need to resize the filesystem to take advantage of the extra space on the 2 TB drive. You can use a tool like resize2fs (for ext2/3/4 filesystems) or xfs_growfs (for XFS filesystems) to do this.

😖 on second thought.. might be easier to close and re-open my channels. lol
