The public will demand that illegals don’t get benefits, or get deported, both sides will support, and then say everyone needs a digital ID to interact with society so we can police out the illegals. Then the system will be weaponized against everyone. Something along those lines. Maybe the border gets super tight so people can’t leave because a Mandibles scenario is coming. Who knows what exactly, but it sure as hell isn’t because they care about American citizens.

I believe you. The Patriot Act used an external attack to justify all kinds of visible and invisible intrusions. Then we rationalize additional voluntary freedom erosions to overcome the new frictions of movement, such as TSA Precheck. And I further agree that border walls keep us locked up as much as others out. Like the Patriot Act, support for the border wall is becoming bipartisan, and terrifying.
Every time there is manufactured consent on a big issue, they are planning something evil. We’ll see how it plays out.
