I'd probably start by not giving you and two click-trackers my email.
Discussion
nobody said it had to be your personal email address. if you want me to send you the pdf directly let me know where to send it
Put it on your onion site.
it sounds like you are not a person who would benefit from reading this book. clearly you have all the best practices and precautions sorted. congrats.
It's not about me. You have a platform. Help people.
"Free Privacy Lesson Number 1:
Download Tor browser for your device. Click this link to download my self-hosted book anonymously. Follow me on Nostr for more tips."
We can all be part of the solution or part of the problem.
In hindsight I should've minded my own business, but here we are. Do whatever you like.
it sounds like you have some ideas. i encourage you to do them.
Just to be clear, this all started because I wanted to get the book. I thought I'd maybe learn something new. Maybe pass it around to my friends and family who aren't tech-savvy.
But if I send them to the site, they'll get harvested. And if they call out any privacy concerns after they read the book and get educated, they'll get told to fuck off.
Nope.
dude you have to meet people where they are, not where you want them to be. i'm not sending my dad to an onion site with a list of instructions. this is about a basic set of precautions for the average person that can make a big difference, not optimal dissident-level opsec
by the end of the book people will have gained a newfound appreciation for the things you're talking about, but they can't have that appreciation without reading it first
also, i'm not "harvesting" anything. there's nothing i'm selling. just use an email alias with simplelogin if you're concerned about downloading a free ebook, that's what lots of people have already done (and what i address in the book)
- Protect your privacy with this info!
- Cool, how do I get it?
- Give your email to me and I'll give it to two other people who will gather data about you.
- Well I read this other book that says I shouldn't do that and that you wouldn't ask me to unless...
- Sounds like you don't need my book. Fuck off and send me some ignorant people that won't ask questions.
Nice screen cap. Here's a link so people can actually read it.
Nice virtue-signal, also. I'll make sure not to point out the privacy flaws to the guy giving privacy advice next time because he's super nice and tries really hard.
I used to think nostr:npub14slk4lshtylkrqg9z0dvng09gn58h88frvnax7uga3v0h25szj4qzjt5d6 went a tad overboard on this kind of thing, but I understand now. It's hypocrisy. Led into a privacy violation to learn how to not get your privacy violated.
God I can't make this shit up. Cloudflare AND a bonus profile created with some third party? You've been acting like I'm an asshole for pointing this out. Just fuck off dude. A true believer in this stuff would never send their grandma through the privacy wringer like this. Doing it privately would be EASIER. How many accounts and services did you have to sign up with just to serve up a simple PDF file?
Grifting, incompetent, or a fed.
