I set up a server on my VPS last week, and my wife and I switched our chat to simplex. Works perfectly. It's ready for the big stage.
Not sure about big stage. Seems to not scale well just yet.
Scaling in a sense that many users overwhelm the standard servers? I wouldn't know, I only use my own server with two participants 😅
The UX feels like early Telegram, there are many little things that can and hopefully will be added in the future. Like video compression when sending video, compressed by the sending device of course. It would also greatly decrease the xftp server's network traffic.

There sadly doesn't seem to be a Gui version of the desktop client for Windows. Otherwise, I'd be using it.
i downloaded this. But with whatsapp having its foothold here, it was hard enough convincing folks to switch to signal, haven't moved a needle on this
You should devote your effort in supporting Nostr as the communication protocol going forward, as it supports multiple devices compared to SimpleX.
Nostr is not private at all, which you don't want for messaging personal contacts. SimpleX desktop is being worked on
Nostr DMs can also be private. It’s just not merged in yet: https://github.com/nostr-protocol/nips/pull/686
That’s why I’m saying that in the long run, Nostr is the better choice for messaging compared to SimpleX, where if you need to switch devices on the go, you lose all your messages.

Eventually we formed a SimpleXChat group to learn the tidbits of the app and then meet in the classroom again for 4+ hours to discuss various aspects of it face to face.
Tomorrow, I'm gonna introduce #Nostr to them.
