I really should participate more on #nostr and social media in general. But I'm too comfortable just being a #lurker.
Gossip's filter script to the rescue!
If everyone who isn't in lock-step agreement about a band is delusional, I'd assume everyone who doesn't agree with your political takes is a nazi. #discord #babymetal
I've had sub-10 followers on Twitter for over a decade, so it's always weird when I get a new one.
I've got an idea if anyone wants to steal it. A NIP07 extension that allow you connect a NIP46 signer and funnel all NIP07 requests to the remote signer. Because it seems like a lot of websites don't allow logging in with a remote signer. #nostr #nostrdev
I know I've railed against nip05 being just a Human Readable Identifier, but I've come to a bit of uneventful realization. nip05 IS just HRI. ActivityPub does it this way, Bluesky does it, and I'm sure many other social media ecosystems do it this way. I was just too damn stubborn to realize it. I'm now rectifying that, and have added a nip05 address. #nostr #alwayslearning
I now have a better understanding of nostr:npub189j8y280mhezlp98ecmdzydn0r8970g4hpqpx3u9tcztynywfczqqr3tg8 filter. And with nostr:npub1acg6thl5psv62405rljzkj8spesceyfz2c32udakc2ak0dmvfeyse9p35c adding nip05 to the spam filter, I'll finally be able to filter out bridges from searches. If I had sats, I'd donate them. But I don't, so all I can give is my unending thanks.
I hate to admit defeat, but it does seem like on-chain bitcoin is the bank, and lightning is cash-on-hand. You win some you lose some. Have set up a primal wallet as a stop-gap until I can figure out how to get the ~3000 sats from an old castodial alby wallet when I don't have the money to open up a channel on alby hub. #nostr #bitcoin #lightning
I know I'm coming to this very late, but the most bridge and ilk have completely ruined searches for me. I try to look up a keyword or a hashtag and 99% of the results I see are from those bridges. That's because most of the big aggregator relays that clients use for searching aggregate most, if not all, of those bridge relays.
Had my first instance of find nostr in the wild. Well, as "in the wild" as Metatron mentioning nostr:npub17jl3ldd6305rnacvwvchx03snauqsg4nz8mruq0emj9thdpglr2sst825x on twitter can be. Didn't even know it was nostr-based until I went to the site and saw an npub address.
Unfortunately, the primary belief is that nip-05 is to be used as just a human-readable identifier. It's always been my belief that nip-05 was used verify you based on the fact it's either a domain you own, are the primary controller of, or directly represent in a offical capaicty a person of the other two catagories. It's why I don't have a nip-05 address myself. I don't have access to a domain that fits those catagories.
testing don't mind me
Don't mind me, just testing something.
The people who think #nostr is anything more than a twitter replacement are the same kind of people that think #ordinals on #bitcoin are a good idea.
This, this, and nothing but this! The fact that most of the major nostr clients are trying to not just reinvent the wheel but the entire damn car and it's very frustrating. I would take it a step further and completely divorce those things from nostr. Spin them off into their own protocol, better yet, look at existing protocols and either fix them up and extend them or rebuild them.
Missing someone you hate and detest is a really weird feeling. Needless optimism at a retrospective is a hell of a thing. #feelngs #showerthoughts
I have a question for those knowledgeable about the more technical side of #bitcoin. Let's say 100 people are creating 100 simple, basic, person-to-person transactions. Is it possible for those transactions to be combined in transit? And if so, would the resulting transaction be more space-efficient than those 100 individual transactions? #asknostr #askbitcoin
Micro payments may ultimately be the way forward, but until Bitcoin can handle such small payments on-chain, it's gonna be a pipe dream.
Testing to see if gosip can write to my locally hosted relay.
Downloaded and compiled a test versin of nostr:npub189j8y280mhezlp98ecmdzydn0r8970g4hpqpx3u9tcztynywfczqqr3tg8 to check out some of the features that nostr:npub1acg6thl5psv62405rljzkj8spesceyfz2c32udakc2ak0dmvfeyse9p35c has been working on. The inclusion of a global feed is a huge step forward. The ability to set what relay(s) constitute your global feed and the possibility of better curation tools will turn this feature into an absolute powerhouse. Add in hashtag support so we can see what people are congregating around, and DVM support things like custom trending algos and generally better discoverability, will make Gossip one of if not the best desktop nostr client. It's really looking like it will represent what I understand nostr is and what it should look like.
