I’m less concerned about the control of the internet, although that is a very real concern, the bigger issue is we’ve switched to platforms controlled by two corporations and we get no say about what we run our own devices. Yes it’s ironic because i make an iOS app, but we need to break apart the appstore duopoly.

Amazon, Microsoft, Samsung, Palm, and Mozilla all had huge projects to develop mobile phones and a mobile OS to compete with Android and iOS. They all failed. Even Blackberry and Nokia who each had a major OS and huge mobile phone business failed to transition to touch screens.

Making mobile phone platforms and OSes is incredibly hard. Much harder than anyone can imagine.

What do you think about grapheneOS? Will we see a reverse trend, where the software gets so great we’ll at some point have a physical phone coming that matches with it?
