Youtuber Mental Outlaw loves Mullvad

Yet he said Proton is a honeypot.

Proton & Mullvad both just pay M247 to service their New York location, which is closest to where Outlaw lives

So the same WireGuard protocol, through the same M247 NY, one day is the NSA honeypot, but another day it's the "chad" king?

Mullvad is propaganda. Their service was resold by radical-left Mozilla, while they ignored that Mozilla inserted AI and "Pocket" advertising malware into Firefox. So Mozilla VPN was just re-branded Mullvad, which was just re-branded M247. And Mullvad happily collected the funds, as they spew dribble about "privacy is a right".

Why is M247 bad? Well, if you haven't yet seen our article on VPNs, it's time to escape the Matrix: https://simplifiedprivacy.com/how-this-vpn-works/epic-pitch.html

Genuine question, can I have the source on the claims about Mullvad and this M247 for further research?

You can see all of Mullvad's servers here. Check the third line for every server listing, that's the provider. M247 currently hosts 162/647 of Mullvad servers.

If you are uneasy about that, just use the servers, that are owned by Mullvad.

That’s true, the issue is a lot of those other servers are also large international datacenter providers as well. And there is the fingerprinting issue discussed in our article

I looked into VPNs a few years ago and decided IVPN seemed to me to be the most likely most honest one. But I can't prove it.

i use PIA ( Private Internet Access ) and it works better than any other VPN i tried but i have no idea if it is secure.

Kindly consider checking out our link above, as it provides some of the issues with many VPNs, including PIA

IVPN has more diversity in servers yes, however for New York they still used M247 last I saw.

Please consider our article on this issue: https://simplifiedprivacy.com/how-this-vpn-works/epic-pitch.html

This page claims if you use m247 then you are a fed, and that iVPN uses it. These both are unknowable, as is their claim they are not.

At no point did we claim that Mullvad or M247 is a Fed. The claim was that governments tap routers and switches. They can not tap every router on earth. Therefore, they focus on the largest datacenters’ routers and switches. Further, we point out that they respond to the legal court order of the country they are registered in.

Knowing if IVPN uses M247 is public knowledge, they admit to it and it's obvious if you exit the servers from whatsmyip.com and DNS lookups.

My Nostr haters be like:

"Do you really think people give a shit about this level of privacy? Email or VPN server decentralization? Just use Proton or Mullvad"

And my response is:

Do you really think people give a shit about this level of censorship resistance? Social media decentralization? Just use Elon Musk's X"

I would love to know whether I have a verifiable assurance of privacy, but I don't understand how this is something a VPN provider can guarantee.

I agree. That’s why we have a trustless 2-layer solution. You can keep using the VPN you have, and then create browser-only wireguard or Tor→proxy profiles with us for just $1. Even better without using the sudo password

Still can't see where I can do this.

I'm sorry, I misunderstood your question. You’re right and I’m wrong.

So we are in alpha testing now, if you'd like to participate, please msg on Session or SimpleX to go over install. It's free for alpha, but maybe install issues depending on your distro.

As soon as the install bugs for each distro are resolved, we can launch beta test. The problem is the dependencies for each distro are different

I'm curious, I'm a mullvad user. I've seen their no log VPN server that runs entirely in RAM, that's a pretty good sales pitch to me. Where can I find out more in depth details about this issue with mullvad?

Oh, alright. The link explains it. Mullvad server in the same data center as the website youre going to, also the data center is within jurisdiction of a 5 eyes which means you're not protected.

Those are definitely security concerns. I dig that your software allows users to create entire fingerprints and that your VPN servers are deliberately only located in small data centers. I'll have to check it out. Great pitch my dude.

Thanks man, sorry seeing this 2nd post after, ignore my other one on the RAM.

Appreciate your time

So what's the answer?

IMHO you and MO are talking about different things. I'd wager 5k sats that he'd agree with you on this specific gripe.

"Honeypot" is a bit of a strong term when vulnerability due to centralization is the problem.

Censorship on platforms is a different concept entirely and you know this. Identity vs voice.

Keep up the good work and keep making us wiser 🙌🙌 will ⚡⚡ when I get my wallet sorted

Hey thanks for your time. Honeypot is his words, not mine.
