have we considered removing likes for zaps entirely on any clients ?
would need a faster zap and maybe wallet integration ?

the new #[2] integrated zap support in amethyst is a good start
It was discussed a few weeks ago while #[2] was implementing zaps in Damus. This is being done on other platforms. For example, the Fountain podcast app automatically zaps 10 sats when a like is clicked. Fountain already has an integrated wallet, though, like you mentioned.
What if user has no wallet set up, clicking like says, “Yo, you need to set up a wallet!” It would increase wallet adoption, but it’s also a bit pushy with the bitcoin adoption.
Tbh that’s a great idea
Might be nice to replace likes with a default low-sat zap, with no or minimal follow thru tapping/clicking. And use the ⚡️ icon as it’s used today
Wallet of satoshi seems to be the fastest for me… but ya I was thinking the same thing. Like button kinda doesn’t mean shit anymore 😅🤣idk
Amethyst, Snort, and Current have integrated wallets, making Zapping as easy as liking a post. It's great!
Alby wallet connect on Amethyst FTW 🤙
What do you think of this UX?
1. User without a wallet clicks Like and it does a standard Like
2. User with a wallet clicks Like and it automatically zaps 10 sats
At that point, a Like from a lightning user would carry more weight.
Yes, likes are bone deep in social media
wallet integration bad idea atm
If it’s fully integrated I think it makes total sense.
no
I've been thinking about like vs zaps.
some people think that we should do away with likes. If you see something you appreciate, you should zap it instead of punching an arbitrary heart button. Nostr doesn't have an algo, so likes aren't used to rank popularity of a note programmatically anyway (correct me if I'm wrong here)
I think likes are more of a social etiquette that we've developed in an online social media world. It's the nodding your head when a speaker says something poignant or applauding at the end of a street performer's show. It's so ingrained in our behavior as members of a social network online.
I think it would feel weird to not have likes because human networks are about more than just an exchange of value. Likes are a way for people to say "I see you. I hear you" and those tiny building blocks of social value are what you need to build a community.
