Milk is really gross if you think about it. A nature formulated mixture to make baby cows grow fast - and we steal it from the cow for consumption. 🤣
We are weird.

It used to be important for survival. I don't think it is anymore.
When was it important for survival?
Back when winters were hard and there wasn't enough agricultural produce to last through it.
In Arabian deserts, in ancient days, camel milk was important because it was liquid that that can be stored in udders for longer than you can find water. Basically, travellers finish their water in their containers, then start using camel milk.
Sheep milk, on the other hand, was an important source of protein. It was also used as a store of drinkable liquid.
Don't underestimate the power of milk in harsh conditions.
This take is gay. Tits and the milk that comes from them are both amazing. Not to mention, cow’s milk is delicious. Also, butter, cheese, yogurt, and the list goes on. 🤤
And still I like it in a cappuccino... 😅
But in that case all animal produce is gross?
Animal muscles and fat ground up and stuffed into their own intestines? And then fried.
Milk is delicious, meat is delicious!
Cow meat not meant for consumption by baby cow ..
So how do you feel about eating eggs then? Eating the actual proto-baby.
And "meant"? By whom? 😃
Just to be clear, I drink milk and I’m not against it. I’m just saying it’s weird af.
I think you’re misinterpreting what I’m saying because I clearly said the milk is meant for consumption by the calf. An egg is not meant for consumption by the animal that comes out of it … not a good comparison. But to be clear there I also love eggs.
Oh, I get what you mean. Just pushing a bit to see where those thoughts lead you.
My philosophy of life is that most things are very weird when you look closer at them.
I live inside a structure made from dead plants, and covered with stuff that was dug up from deep in the ground and then burnt at very high temps. (Wood house with tin roof).
Appreciate the weirdness!
The amount of chemically concocted protein drinks on the shelves is a much stranger phenomenon.
You do know all mammals produce milk, right? That's basically the definition of a mammal species.
You do know you can just eat the whole cow right? :)
Totally 😀

All food is gross if you think about it.
We are all indeed weird
what's even weirder is that human milk can taste pretty gross if you drink it as an adult.
so we don't drink milk of our own species but will drink the milk of other animals.
I'm sure there's an evolutionary component in there somewhere.
yes, the appearance of a defect in the lactose digestion switch which in most animals turns off not long after the animal no longer needs it. for cats that's about 6 months, for humans it's about 8 years. but something like 70% of the human population has this gene and so we can tolerate lactose.
i believe it provide a massive evolutionary advantage to adopting domesticated ruminants, sheep, goats, cows and buffalo, in addition to eating their meat, and the uses of their bones and horns, the milk was also good, especially if fermented, and people who were able to do this had a much more stable food supply than hunters.
there also seems to be some kind of connection between milk and stature because the two average tallest nationalities are dutch and bosnian, and the bosnians are probably the most skilled at making cheese in the balkans, on par with the dutch.
i forgot the benefits of the hides of the animals as well. sheep is great for cold climates, goat is a good general purpose light leather, and cowhide is fantastic for heavy duty stuff.
and not to forget the hair! sheep being the best of course, even quite good when woven and retted for damp climates
Human milk does not taste gross, it tastes better than cows milk.
Evolution really picked some strange preferences. 😅
We take said milk; warm it up and take the curdled protein out, then add mold to it, let it denature, finally we eat it. 🧀
Nothing wrong with having a cow or a goat and taking some of their milk for additional fat and nutrients. Mass production is the problem.
It becomes even more apparent how gross it is when you milk the cows yourself.
They have E coli and stuff like that on their skin, it's just normal, part of their skins microbiome.
You have to wash the utter well before you begin milking.
I think it's strange that cows became the animal we use for milk, sheeps milk is way safer and easier to digest for humans.
I disagree. I prefer raw milk every day over alcohol.
