Yep you for sure nailed some pain points. Still working out some things. Photos management and storage is one of the harder ones for sure.
Nextcloud is the next logical step for anyone missing iCloud. StartOS makes it fairly easy if you follow their guides
From what I understand, you can still install Google services to get some of that functionality without surrendering everything. Was that not worthwhile?
Yeah that's corrct, you can install Google Services as a sandboxed app. The difference is that its usually baked in to the OS and has full access to everything at all times, but with graphene has access to nothing unless you explicitly say so.
So technically if you really really had to youcould install Google Maps etc
Android Auto is not usable and for me, Apple photos, find my, etc is unfortunately indispensable
I love my graphene pixel but when I’m traveling internationally, I still rely on my iPhone. Easier to deal with esims and I’ve found some apps I require don’t always play nicely on graphene. Specifically the Grab app and Line apps in Thailand which are quite useful
Yeah fair point, I've not gone down the esim route yet so I'm not up to speed on the limitations. My understanding is that you need Google Services to activate and manage the esim. Sounds like a pain for sure
Esim is totally fine. Yes, you need a sandboxed Google Services installed which is (totally) fine. After that, you'll be able to scan your QR code or paste the esim code and activate no problemo.
I use it all the time I need data on the go, payable with #Bitcoin of course, using Bitrefill. Quick, anonymous, cheap and easy.
I have both, and everything has tradeoffs. Honestly though, I do not carry any sim card on my #GOS, it's on my iPhone (iMessage and all that are still being used heavily around me) however.
If I ever need cellular on #GOS I'd just buy a cheap esim from @bitrefill and be done.
Yeah I'm actually shocked how reliant we all are on imessage for example. When you step outside of the ecosystem you get a clearer view. Its definitely played havoc with some of my comms.

Yuuuuup. I hate it viciously. So my only solution was to keep both phones and compartmentalize my stuff. GOS is for all the juice, and the normies identity is on the fruit phone..
Whoever calls me, if they don't have at least Signal installed, good luck. Bout to cancel my sim card too, or at least reduce the price and get the cheapest offer out there. They can keep the sheep stuff, family or not. That's why I loved your post so much cause it takes serious balls to say no to that.

I don't have iPhone. I notice at times how many people around me have it. But people managed to contact me without iMessage, ya know? 😆
But many years ago when I got off iPhone 3, yea it took some time to transition. I guess just like with quitting anything.
