I heard from people they had their channels force-closed and I also saw the fees involved so never really considered using Phoenix myself. Watching your video, I became interested to read up on it tho 👍
Still seems quite complicated to understand all the workings and fees but it's nice to see the UI makes it simple to use it as quick means of payment.
People actually recommended it to me saying it was private but in their FAQ it says:
The current version of Phoenix offers no advantage regarding privacy over existing, hosted, custodial wallets. We (ACINQ) know the final destination and amount of payments.
Do you have experience with Zeus wallet in terms of ease of use, privacy and self custody? They say it's actually private and also simple to use tho I'm not sure as it says you have to connect to a ln node yourself to start off.
Zeus is a full LN node. It connects to other nodes to open channels, but everything like routing is done by the node, which makes it more private, but also a bit slower. You can also use it just as a front end to an existing node, but where it shines it just running the full node on your end device.
I would consider it for shops that wasn't to sovereignly receive.
Phoenix is also self custodial node, but leaves routing to the server. That means that routing is super fast and works. It can't take your money. Theoretically it could overcharge you on fees, but in case of Phoenix even that can't happen, because the fees are fixed 0.4%.
For payment privacy you can use lnproxy. Destination in that case is just random one time key.
When having a zeus node running on my phone can I go offline or does it cause issue? Is this the all-in-one solution for having a working privacy preserving ln wallet on my phone? BTC people told me it's easy and more private than monero but I don't trust like that. It seems so complicate 😔
Yes, you can go offline, if you don't want to be a routing node.
