What's a Google cloud alternative?

I'd like to have file synching between my desktop and laptop ...and also, backup.

I don't run a server. I don't mind paying for this service.

I can always manually backup to an external hard drive...

Running a nostr:npub126ntw5mnermmj0znhjhgdk8lh2af72sm8qfzq48umdlnhaj9kuns3le9ll is really easy. Why not just run your own server? Otherwise I don’t know. Sorry.

I want something that I "set up and forget it".

I have way too much on my plate and also... Isn't start9 $1,000.

My budget is what I'm paying Carbonite ($100/yr)... I'll get rid of Carbonite once I have a syncing/ storage solution.

Once you get a node going you can ‘forget it’ a little bit. But that’s the trade off for self sovereignty: there is work involved. Are you computer savvy? You can build your own Start9 with old computer parts. I have a very old server hardware running Start9 until I save up for a newer machine.

I’m unfamiliar with online solutions. $100/year, sure if that works. But remember it’s still someone else’s computer. But really there is no right or wrong in my opinion. Just risk/work/time trade offs. Have fun, good luck and happy computing.

And also, if it’s just file storage and not bitcoin, you can use a raspberry pi setup. nostr:npub1aghreq2dpz3h3799hrawev5gf5zc2kt4ch9ykhp9utt0jd3gdu2qtlmhct runs well and does file storage. Cost os about 200$ for all the parts I believe. But the set up is still gonna be work so maybe still not helpful.
