So there is a balance, eh? It doesn’t need to be a binary choice. The ideal is somewhere in the middle.

When it comes to freedom, as with freedom of expression, there is no middle ground: either it exists or it does not.

Seems to me there’s a trade-off with that level of individual freedom. An organised collective can take power from within. Many such cases.

Yeah it’s about 5% collectivism, 95% individualism if you look at the biology of humans. Anecdotally; communism in the family, socialism for the extended family (tribe), freedom for all the rest up the scale of humanity.

That said you highlight the fundamental flaw in human thinking. Generally can’t understand continuous variables, when they do distinguish between categorical and continuous, they often default to a 50:50 for categorical things…
