That will be up to relays and clients. I can see in the very near future some relays having value adds and charge for messages and for storage.

Note that Tor works without “incentives” or charging for messages…it is a different system but that is something to consider.

I would say that has been donation funded though. Which is great but has it's sustainability pit falls.

As of today…. 11,205 out of total 15,965 Lightning nodes are Tor Onion Service Nodes…yes, it is choppy and needs much improvement.

Why are those nodes on TOR rather than on clearnet ?
