The dude that was lecturing me on men and women last night told some stories about his grandfather beating his father, and his father beating him. This quote is all I could think about 😢

the amount of ppl i've spoken to who wear it proudly is kind of frightening.
"yeah, i needed it."
or
"i deserved it; i was a bad kid."

Hannah, the first half of this article https://web.archive.org/web/20250828212822/https://www.nytimes.com/2025/05/01/opinion/trump-faith-humanism.html reminded me of what you've been talking about regarding tech bros and the ones who say "men are natural leaders," etc. It's an insightful read. BTW, that's an interesting quote by bell hooks.
That's an interesting article. And I'm a fan of Brooks, I've enjoyed some of his books. But... my experience with Christianity is that it is very much about domination and authoritarianism. The Churches that I've experienced were very patriarchal and preached an abusive relationship model of the universe. Obey or suffer hell fire. I understand that Jesus said some amazing things, but that is not what was discussed in the Churches that I've been to. And so a Christian revival does not bring me a sense of hope, it brings me a sense of terror.
O, you noted the first half of the article! Yes, the first half nails it!
