In a strange plot twist the red pilled dudes have gotten so bizarre that when I get pulled into a debate with one of them I now spend most of that time defending men.

My interest in Nostr has lost its spark. I think I’m done being curious about it.

I don’t know if it’s because I have a growing family I want to dedicate 100% of all that I have on them or Nostr and the internet in general have never really added any lasting value to my life… unless of course if it’s necessary for work.

This is my personal call to retreat from the digital life and live fully offline in the real. I’ve always known this time was coming and I believe that time has come.

First thing I do on a fresh QubesOS install is keep the foundation clean. Anything that touches the system—sys-net, sys-firewall, sys-usb, sys-whonix, all the service qubes—stays minimal. I don’t install a thing into the templates attached to those qubes. Same goes for the default DVM. Clean base, minimal attack surface.

When I need to install apps, I don’t contaminate the original templates. I clone the template, rename it, and point my daily App Qubes (personal, work, etc.) to the clone. So if Fedora ships as fedora-41-xfce, mine becomes fedora-41-xfce-custom, and that’s where the apps I need get installed.

If I’m building a sensitive qube—banking, crypto, whatever—I’ll clone the untouched template again and keep that one lean too. Only install what I need. Nothing more.

And this applies to everything in Qubes: Fedora, Debian, Whonix, Arch, Kali… whatever template you bring in. The rule is simple—keep the base template pristine, do your work in cloned templates, and let compartmentalization actually mean something.

Keeping things minimal, isolated, and compartmentalized is one of the cleanest OPSEC habits you can build in QubesOS.

Don’t try to spice things up.

If you’ve been with someone a long time and the “spark” is gone, don’t try to “spice things up”. It will just lead to everyone feeling pressure and frustration.

The “spark” leaves when you’ve grown apart, or become room mates, or when the both of you have just stopped trying. And deciding to do some sexual role play scene with your room mate that you’re just not that into really isn’t going to go well for anyone!

Instead, reconnect. Read a book together. Go out for long walks. Go on a trip together. Get drunk together. When you can actually see that person again, when you remember why you were so into them… that’s where the “spark” lives.

Hardest final today, I can’t sleep.

People think I’m a bot because it’s hard to watch someone live the dream.

It’s hard to watch a woman pull themselves up out of poverty without any government assistance, without any man paying their way, without any form of sex work.

It’s hard to imagine that someone could literally come from a background as rough as I did (homelessness, trauma, south side dynamics, etc) and yet, I did.

It’s hard to imagine that someone could get their first job at 13, work 3-4 jobs at a time, and put themselves through college while never taking a handout because they practiced deeply libertarian values and yet, I did.

This is actually the Bitcoin promise. And it shows just how little people actually practice and believe what they preach.

When you finally get into the fancy room you realize that all these “accomplished” people are the most desperate followers that you’ve ever met.

Meritocracy, its the idea that people should be in the fancy room, or not, based on their talent and effort. And in theory, I’m a huge fan of meritocracy. But in the states especially, this concept has turned into a twisted sort of status game. There is this desperation to prove one’s value by being “above” others… by getting into the room that others can’t.

I was born into that culture and at times embraced it. I desperately wanted to get into that room. I was convinced that only the best of people could be there. The smartest, the hardest working, the most insightful, and that’s what I wanted to be. I wanted to go to the fancy restaurants, the exclusive clubs, the biggest cities, the most expensive hotel, the VIP lounge.

And then it happened. I got my name on the list, I sat at the table at the fancy dinner, I met my heroes. And it broke my heart. At first of course it was quite exciting and fun. But it didn’t take long to start to notice the cracks in the facade. All these people weren’t the most hard working, the most intelligent, the most insightful… they were the most desperate. They were not there because “the cream rises to the top” they were there because they were also desperate to prove themselves.

That fancy room, it’s just a room full of people all desperate to prove that they too can be in the fancy room. Sad, and pretty sobering when you realize that description includes you. Now inclusion in the fancy room is of course very much a meritocracy, but the “merit” being tested is one’s ability to follow. It’s a test of one’s ability to pick up on what the current culture values and emulate that effectively. It’s a test of your trendiness and ability to curry favor with others.

It’s one of those things where once you see it you can’t unsee it. Now when I look at the pictures from the party in the fancy room I feel a bit embarrassed for those attendees. They don’t even realize what a confession that photo they proudly posted is.

The world is really a lot messier than it’s comfortable to acknowledge. There isn’t a room full of all of the smartest, the hardest working, the most insightful. The people that you will wind up having genuine respect for are scattered all around in all sorts of rooms. You are very luck when you occasionally meet those people. You might meet them in a fancy room, but you are just as likely to meet them on the bus.

It’s a big letdown to realize that “the fancy room” is just a fantasy. You can’t have it, because it doesn’t exist. So I’ll just be drinking with my friends at the dive bar.

Me and one of my kids were having a chat about how our lives would be different if we had been born male rather than female. And she said some rather sad things. She's like "I couldn't listen to the music that I do. I couldn't paint my finger nails..." etc.

It's so fucked up that we shame men out of just enjoying their lives. Dudes don't get to go to the nail salon, listen to fun pop music, put on dramatic eye liner, wear pretty clothes, dance with enthusiasm, drink a fancy fruity drink, on and on. We intensely shame them out of enjoying the simple pleasures of life. That's so sad. Don't be one of those people!

In the last season of Halt and Catch Fire, there’s a scene set in the early days of the internet. New websites are being added and there’s no search engine yet. While developing a search engine, the characters manually curate a directory of websites one by one. One of them says something like, “When there are 500 or even 5,000 sites, what you’re saying works fine. But what will you do when there are 5 million?”

From where we stand now, that seems absurd; manually curating websites one by one. But back then, it wasn’t absurd at all.

I think the same applies to today’s centralized internet systems. The internet cannot truly evolve on top of centralized structures. It just can’t. From where we are now, it looks reasonable and *functional* but in the future, we’ll realize how absurd and unsustainable it is. Just as manually managing websites once seemed practical but now feels ridiculous, trying to run the internet through non-decentralized systems will one day seem just as absurd.
