Here's my biochar retort. There's a small garbage can inside a 55 gallon drum. Only because I haven't found a 35 gallon drum yet.
Now I just need to build something to grind all the biochar

Permie in NW Missouri here, now have 10-55 gallon drums at home along with 10-30/35 gallon drums. Looking to make a retort or multiples. How well does this style work?
For the smaller drums, check Craigslist. The ones I got had chicken fat in them from a plant… more expensive than the 55s. Were $5ea for 55s, and I think $10ea for the smaller ones, both prices were for buying 10+ at once. Glad to have 31 acres to spread out in now…lol

I'll have a look for it, but I remember watching a video where they put the pipe all the way down the barrel. Had a row of holes a few inches from the bottom of the pipe. As the feedstock heats up the wood gas is forced through the holes and up the chimney. Once it ignites you get heating from inside the barrel too.
