We use AI to improve engineering productivity at Casa, such as for writing boilerplate code and for performing various sanity checks during code reviews.

But the AI is often wrong. It will write brittle code, it will make incorrect recommendations on code reviews. AI is just a tool; it remains critical to have competent engineers as part of the process to guide these tools with skilled hands.

For now

In 3 years the code will be all but brittle

The need for skilled engineers will only decrease over time. Best to learn how to coal. The AI Data Centers need a lot of power.

Software engineers are basically the store attendants that oversee the self checkout stations

as contrarian I love AI. Skepticism and sensing flaws became much more valuable

Wax on, wax off.

Yup!

So true. Always, always human check—man in the middle—any tech; especially AI!

(As a side note Grok has been practically unusable for me this week; it keeps responding to weeks and months old conversations instead of the current query.)

GPT-5 tho?

It’s been out for only 24 hours and has leveled up my vibe coding. Claude 4 would struggle and I would have to fight it to get bugs fixed

GPT-5 is noticeably better like a hot knife through my bugs

…..and that’s why I am a casa customer. Thoughtful and intelligent leadership!

You should probably reskill those hands at cleaning toilets. Clocks ticking.
