I don’t think nostr has ever had this debate yet and I’m kind of surprised.

Anime sub or dub? I will judge you by your answer.

It is a fine line I walk😂🤣

sub

This is the correct answer 🫡

Depends entirely on the anime.

Lots of action, etc.: dub

Lots of dialog: sub

Sounding kinda sus right now explain yourself

Lots of action means I can't focus on reading so I need the dub. Anything with plenty of dialog lends itself more to sub. Truthfully, if I could get a combo I'd be thrilled. Also, sometimes the kid watches and he's only 8 so the dub helps there too. But when he gets older, he's rewatching the classics with subtitles.

Watching dub anime with your kid is valid

Sub. Same goes for anything else, original is (almost) always best.

It really is. I watched the parasite movie in sub and dub. Americans can really translate everything properly.

Yeah, I agree. I prefer watching movies and shows as the creator made it.

Not a fan of dubbed versions of any form of media.

But then there's also this 🤣

Best not to get used to subtitles.

Hahahaha yes! You don’t know how many Netflix and chill sessions I needed to turn subtitles on 😂

sub.

all day everyday.

dub is for weebs.

Those Naruto running weebs

I'm adept at finding the *Japanese* subs,

cause my listening comprehension is good but sometimes I dont understand the vocab.

if i can see the kanji I usually get it.

What is kanji?

中国の字は「漢字」と言います。

How many languages do you understand?

just the two.

if a white guy can ever be said to really understand Japanese

Sub, keep the local flavor and follow along

I don’t like anime but it’s sub or die in all foreign films. Dub is un-watchable trash imo.

Actually, I do love the original Ghost in the Shell but idk if that’s anime.

No one can dislike anime after watching attack on titan.

Sub. Dub is for people who can't read

Shots fired

Trigun's dub is literally canonical. They speak English on planet Gunsmoke. Japanese is the translation, even though it's the author's native language.

The argument could also be made that English makes more sense than Japanese as the language of Amestris in Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood.

As for other, inferior anime - no comment.

I think some anime dubbed works well like dragon ball and fmab. The rest should be sub!

Good to be unbiased when possible 🤙

Only anime I’ve ever seen is Pokémon and Spirited Away.

*refuses to elaborate*

This picture is cursed

Pretty sure this is what Satan looks like.

I don't care, I will watch both. I can't listen to sub while doing other things. Sometimes the sub is just way better because of the VA's. Really just depends on what I am doing and which show I am watching.

What do you watch?

Currently watching through One Piece mainly. Had never watched it before so I started at the very beginning. Almost to Water 7. I am also trying Tower of God, and re-watching Rurouni Kenshin. Just finished catching up on Solo Leveling.

You?

One piece is amazing until thriller bark. The pacing gets really bad around that time. I recommend switching to manga at some point. Attack on titan is probably my favorite anime but not really watching or reading anything else at the moment. Was always a huge dragon ball fan too.

Subbed all the way.

Except Naruto. I liked the dubbed one for that one.

Itachi actually sounds better in Japanese, nice.

I did re-watch a portion of the show on Japanese.

I don't have a strong preference in the case of Naruto because I like it so much in both haha

honestly just depends which version i saw first, thats typically what my brain wants for future viewings ( assuming the dubbing is well done).
