-> Ducks forage in a way that you can run them through your garden space,
Reducing slug, snail, & overall bug pressure.
I'm about to run my ducks after I trellis tomatoes, but I'd never run my chickens.
-> You can also use the duck water & manure quicker than chicken manure which requires a longer composting period.
-> The eggs are way bigger / more nutritious
-> Ducks keep themselves cleaner due to being in the water, which also means less chance of ticks when you pick em up.
-> Ducks don't need as high of a fence, meanwhile chickens are likely to escape without a high fence.
-> Duck meat > Chicken meat
-> Roosters are very noisy, ducks are chill AF.
Ive tried duck eggs once when i still used to eat eggs couldn’t deal with consistency or taste.
Chickens arent the brightest. I used to live on a farm for a while and they would pick at stones instead of worms.
Stones have bugs on em usually, hence the picking.
& Chickens are pretty smart, do some research on em.
Duck eggs are incredible, if you don't like them it's because you don't know how to cook 🫢.

I did lots of research on chickens yrs ago their behaviour didnt get brighter though.. and where they were picking there were no bugs on the stones.

Why do you think it's more common to have chickens?
Chickens produce more eggs when trying to be industrious & the meat is super popular.
Duck eggs & meat are considered delicacies.
Commercialized food systems have neutered quality & variety for the sake of efficiency.
Further, in a permaculture system, you're usually looking to replace your diet aspiring to be self sufficient.
Most people don't even think of ducks.
