Hitting your kids just teaches them that coercion & violence are justified if someone makes them angry & that you just have to be bigger & stronger & have some position of authority to get your way.
Parental abuse is the root cause of violent cops & other forms of govt tyranny.
My kids clean up after themselves and I've never spanked them.
Kids who are spanked tend to have the most behavior problems *because* they are spanked, despite the efforts of abusive parents to see it as the other way around. It raises cortisol levels & reduces IQ, among many other negatives.
I used to disagree, I had belts, wooden spoons, and the occasional fist as a kid. I raised my kids with none of that, and after studying psychology I realize in a very real way my upbringing did me no favors.

cults are always stupid and useless, like in the cliche of bad guys' crews because they have had their creativity beaten out of them.
Kids want their parents to be proud of them. If you show them the right thing to do they'll do it most of the time. Let them know you're proud of them when they do right. A mistake is a mistake. Help them focus on fixing the mistake and move on. Express disappointment when they willfully make the wrong choice, but don't overdo it. A little goes a long way. You don't have to make them feel like shit. And you definitely don't have to hit them.
I believe making kids obey authority for authority's sake is why we have overbearing governments. Authority should be sparse and earned, also questioned and challenged.
Everyone should be encouraged to write a diary / draw / do something creative. Unprocessed emotions are the root cause of perpetuatingunconsciousnesss, which leads to violence.
Great power comes with great responsibility. That incluyes freedom.
Punishment is more important than indulgence.
If you are capable of understanding an accepting this, you will be able to effectively avoid abuses of power from the parents or the kids.
The great problem of today's world is that cantillionaires are constantly indulged of their errors and sins by printing money. That disrupts the course of the scientific method (trial and error) and makes the entire society dumber and poorer.
That's why bitcoin is hope. Because it's literally the sparkly chancla of punishment over indulgence. It hits you where it's most painful (your pocket). It brings back the responsibility that's the base of progress.
I'm personally grateful that my mom hit me when I was a kid but I can understand perfectly that it's a power that can be abused.
