There's no point in telling an artist that trashes his own work "well actually it's kinda good I like it".

It doesn't really matter what you think. If he's the real deal, he knows that he knows better than you. Opinions are irrelevant.

You might send the signal that you support him and that's great, but you're wrong on the fact of matter. It's not good. It should be better and you can't change his mind.

What if one of da Vinci’s fans had stopped him a couple months in to painting the Mona Lisa and said “aw c’mon man, it looks pretty good, just move on to something else. You’re obsessing over small details, no one’s gonna notice.”

When you compromise as an artist you loose the joy of creating. But as an artisan it is always a joy to find technical solutions for the client on a budget.

As long as it doesn't compromise your own standards of quality of course. 😉
